Rehearsal report – “The Sad Story of Mrs. Donut Person”

We’re into final preparations for the Young Playwrights’ Festival, writing light cues, painting props, and going into dress rehearsals. We’re also putting the finishing touches on the delicious Drink and Dessert Gala after the show.

Speaking of delicious– today we feature “The Sad Story of Mrs. Donut Person” by Biance Acosta of Central Elementary, a cautionary tale of temptation and restraint…

Director Lisa Jordan was immediately struck by the idea of trying to costume Mr. and Mrs. Donut Person for this tragical tale. Where to start? As a base, Lisa used large inner tubes. After a few coats of chocolate-y brown spray paint, they received their terrycloth icing– pink for Mrs. and vanilla for Mr. Add some harness straps to keep the donut bodies secure, as well as a handful of purple sprinkles, and we’re left with some truly tasty-looking costumes!

Stay tuned for more updates on the road to the Seventh Annual Young Playwrights’ Festival!
